Flying Visit!

Last half term Class One visited Newcastle International Airport as part of their topic about journeys.  The children were first shown around the fire department where they got to see the fire engines in action and were able to try on some of the protective clothing.  From the back of the Fire Department the children had a fantastic view of the aeroplanes taking off and landing and even managed to get passengers and pilots to wave back at them.  They then went to the terminal where they had the opportunity to see where to check in luggage and show passports.  The final part of the trip before getting the bus back to school was a Metro ride from the Airport to Kingston Park.  This was definitely the highlight of the trip for the children because a lot of them had never travelled by Metro and some had never been on a train journey at all.  All of the children had a fantastic day and came back to school with lots to talk about.

School Trip to Seven Stories

This term children from Embleton Vincent Edwards C of E Aided First School enjoyed a visit to Seven Stories, the national Centre for Children’s Books.  The museum is located in the Ouseburn Valley in Newcastle so the children were very excited about the journey to a different locality. Our school visited the museum as part of our topic “once upon a time.”  All of the children from the school participated in a workshop looking at the work of the former Children’s Laureate Anthony Browne.  Younger children looked further at their topic, “going on a journey”, by looking further around the museum.  Older children looked at the Jacqueline Wilson exhibition (including a recreation of the set from Tracey Beaker) and then went to the creation station to make covers for their own Jacqueline Wilson inspired books.  Our school really enjoyed the trip which provided excellent speaking and listening opportunities for children, which has been reflected in children’s further creative writing.
